  6. On Investigation Discovery three part series Prefer divx or mp4. Thanks edit:
  7. SXSW always saves a bit of room in its program for short films, here are five of them... 1. INCEL - Dir: John Merizalde Incel was inpired by a 2014 California mass shooting, which led S/W alum John Merizalde to craft this thought-provoking character study that nails the disturbing nature of the “involuntary celibate” online subculture. 2. Right Place, Wrong Tim - Dir: Eros Vlahos The WTF dimension of this film made it a no-brainer. Made through the UK’s Random Acts scheme and featuring Asa Butterfield, Vlahos takes us on a bloody trip that starts as a spoof of a 90’s British sitcom before effortlessly turning into a genre gore-fest. 3. Sundays - Dir: José Andrés Cardona The Six Short Films collective film begins as a trivial scene in a car between two friends before quickly changing, upending expectation. 4. Guns Found Here - Dir: David Freid The United States of America sure love their guns, it’s a concept that foreigners like me tend to struggle to grasp. While documentaries about shootings are unfortunately rather common, we appreciated the fresh angle of this one—all the associated paperwork. 5. EXIT 12: Moved By War - Dir: Mohammad Gorjestani Exit 12 premiered online as a Vimeo Staff Pick Premiere. The documentary focuses on a US Marine veteran Roman Baca who started Exit 12, a New York based dance company, as a creative way to work through his war-induced trauma.
  8. The presentation is approximately six minutes long, minus a few seconds at the beginning & end when the cut was made during edit. Standouts in order of appearance: Neil Simon, Burt Reynolds, Penny Marshall, Stan Lee, RIP, stars forever. Some 211 were in the full list. Many were left out due to time contraints for the presentation. View the entire list here. Further commentary regarding snubs & omissions.
  9. The fights are over but here is the tape delay stream.

Short of the Week Awards 2019

In the midst of a never-ending award season, we present the only ones that matter. That’s right, it’s the The S/W Awards! This is our 11th year of honoring our favorite online short films of the previous year, and our 8th edition of the awards. Hopefully you know the drill by now: The S/W Awards aren’t about hastily pulled-together juries, or anonymous academies—you respect Short of the Week for our deep knowledge of the form, and for our taste, so why outsource our most prestigious honor? We pick the winners by polling the entire S/W team on the 280 films that graced our site in 2018, which themselves were plucked from the over 7000 shorts our team screened. Then the Senior Programming team of myself, Rob Munday, Ivan Kander, and Chelsea Lupkin fight it out to select the final lineup. This year 22 films are highlighted in 10 categories, each with a winner and a special mention. Categories are frequently in flux because our goal is to honor the best films, rather than pigeon-hole ourselves into styles, so this year sees Horror, Sci-Fi and Fantasy combined into a single “Genre” award, and in a strong year for LGBTQ, Student, and WTF! films, we broke those categories out. As always we cap things off with the film most-viewed on the site in 2018, and finally our coveted Short of the Year. Like the short film community itself—gritty, resourceful, and committed to artistic quality, the stakes maybe low, but the glory is high, as these select few filmmakers receive the validation of the premier short film curation site—a badge they can proudly wear for life. So here they are, 2019 SotW Award Winners! – Editor-in-Chief, Jason Sondhi
