Still Mine (2012)

 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2073086/

 http://board.dailyflix.one/index.php?/topic/82666-still-mine-2012/

After years of stability, the lives of octogenarian couple, Craig and Irene Morrison, are slowly beginning to change. Because of changing times and regulations, they are no longer able to make a living from their small coastal New Brunswick farm. And Irene has begun to show signs of early dementia.

Now that's just a cut and paste from a website. But there is much, much more to this movie. I remember movies that move me emotionally.... This is one of those very, very rare movies that strikes a chord with you. Yes demential can be a very difficult subject to discuss, now imagine how difficult it would be to create a film with it as part of the storyline and do it successfully !

Michael McGowan (director) pulls it off, in my opinion. So grab some popcorn, plop down on the sofa with your significant other and grab some tissues also, to dry the tears. I give it a 9 outta 10.

Enjoy !

220px-Quest_for_Fire_%28movie_poster%29.

IMDB

http://board.dailyflix.one/index.php?/topic/81051-quest-for-fire-1981/

Quest for Fire takes place some 80,000 years in the past. A primitive homo sapiens tribe huddles around a natural fire source for comfort and survival. When that source is extinguished, tribesmen Naoh (Everett McGill), Amoukar (Ron Perlman), and Gaw (Nameer El-Kadi) are sent out on a "quest for fire."

It takes some great acting to be able to pull off this movie and they do it quite well. Highly recommended.

Pawn Shop Chronicles.

Sure it is only a 6 or 7 our of 10 movie but it had an all star cast and flew under the radar to me.  I enjoyed it even if it was not a fully envisioned movie.. With that said,  the post production and actor performances were above par.

I just finished watching this, and I have to say it gave me quite a few laughs.

Some of the effects and bits of dialogue are, admittedly, quite corny, but I've always had a soft spot for a good mockumentary and this movie foots the bill.

I have just watched 99 Homes.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2891174/

It has Michael Shannon and Andrew Garfield. Terrific perfomances, especially Shannon is awesome.

The  movie deals with the fallout of the housing market crash of 2008. It takes place early 2010, some

place in the USA. Evictions, scamming, flipping houses.

We follow Garfield as he, his young son and mom are evicted. He ends up working for the eviction

company, who also flips houses and scams the banks. He slowly gets sucked into Shannon's schemes.

After eviction the banks own the house and then try to sell these off to so-called bulk-buyers.

I would call this a drama-thriller. Music is quite good. The scenery - someplace warm in the US - not

quite sure where - all quite lovely with birds chirping, sunny, nice breeze. Music is quite soft and really

well done.

I give it a 7. The ending left a lot to be desired.

Black Widow

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090738/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

It's an oldy but it's absolutely fantastic. My ex wife is over this evening and we found a good HD copy of it. We're streaming it to the large screen and it's like watching it for the 1st time.

Plot: an insurance fraud investigator investigates a series of deaths - very wealthy slightly older men, all recently married to a gorgeous (younger) woman.

As the compares the various cases she begins to suspect that the woman - is one and the same.

She tries to convince her superiors of this theory but they don't want to hear it.

She then follows the woman (on her own) to Hawaii where she is about to "snag" her next husband/victim.

This is I guess called neo-noir, it's great sinister, suspense old school music, it has Debra Winger and Theresa Russell. Both are absolutely fantastic. The story evolves slowly, the Black Widow sucking the new husband as well as the investigator into her web. I am unsure if it can be viewed on DF - I wasn't able to find it w/ a search.

Rgrds,

Ghost In The Shell

There were parts where it had a Blade Runner feel with the dark, combined with the synthetic aspect of the main character.

Not reaching too far for meaning & not excessive with the action or effects.

A good one too see if Sci Fi is your bag.

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri.

http://board.dailyflix.one/topic/159215-three-billboards-outside-ebbing-missouri-2017/

This movie was very enjoyable.  I'm biased & will watch anything with Woody Harrelson.  Sam Rockwell is great too.  Frances McDormand is the real show stopper.  Her performance in the movie Fargo was so long ago (1996) so I was glad to see her make it all happen, wow.

The WEB DL is available & the RIP is scheduled to be out by the end of the month.

Go watch it before the Oscars, it's a damn good flick.

Bomb City (2017)

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4351548/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

Based on a true story. Done very very very well in portraying what it's actually like to be in highschool and going out with the " gang " and drinking when you are full of teenage hormones and confrontation occurs

Searching (2018) surprised me a lot. With an IMDB of 7.9, I knew I was going to watching, but it was done in such a clever way. There are a number of twists, none of which will blow your mind and the last one went a tiny tiny bit too far, but the movie is grounded, real and very possible. Excellently acted with a perfect and realistic use throughout of internet - not like most movies that have no idea what social media really looks like.

Its basically a social media detective story with a father desperately trying to find his missing daughter by going through her laptop. Really good.

Pretty highly recommended. 8

The House with a Clock in Its Walls (2018) - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2119543/

Watched this twice now, and it's just a terrific family-orientated adventure movie. Excellent roles for the entire cast, particularly Jack Black.

Green Book (2018)

Here is one of a few versions on DailyFlix

I wasn't really sure what to expect as I had no idea nor seen a trailer, ad etc.

Man was I in for nice surprise ! And based on a true story to boot ! It was interesting, all the actors did top notch  work. Very well done script and very fresh with surpises in where you thought you knew where something was going. Touching ? Yes. Made this grown man teary at times, and laugh from mature humour more than once. I can't think of another film from 2018 of the top of my mind at the moment that I enjoyed more. Fantastic

10/10

Let me In ( 2010 )

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1228987/

A bullied young boy befriends a young female vampire who lives in secrecy with her guardian.

It is the American remake of the European movie " Let The Right One In  " which is also an excellent movie but I am North American and was 12 years old in 1983, the setting of Let Me In and love the American version.

The best horror movie ever made IMHO

Watched the Deadwood Movie last night with a few friends & it was a good time.  Seeing the Deadwood cast all together again made for a fun show.  Bittersweet to see it finish for good.

For fans of the TV Show that aren't too fussy about how things should or shouldn't be, watch it.  For those that aren't fans of the TV Show & just want to see a good movie, give it a looksie.

Brightburn (2019)

This isnt billed as a Superman story (I dont think the makers are affiliated with D.C. or paid any royalties) - but its totally the Superman story. Except this takes place only up till 12yrs old. And as Brendan (superman) begins to grow into adulthood, we discover he's a completely murderous psychopath with no remorse of any kind. What an amazing premise. I dont like superhero movies at all. With the exception of Watchmen, I pretty much hate em. But this is so different and its a hard R for gore. And im so glad they made it as an R. Might be a bit slow to get rolling for some, but worth it.

IMDB is 6.7 right now, but I give this an 8 all day long.

Might be my fav movie of 2019 so far.
